RIAF REVIEW: Jazz singer Kate Davis is wise beyond her years
October 24, 2010 by Jim Davis
Is she a bassist who sings or a singer who plays the bass? Does it matter? She has a distinctive vocal sound — rich yet reedy — sometimes soft on enunciation, but always strong on verve and tone. She admits to recently discovering some of her material, but she has mastered the art of a joyous performance style that gives a boost to everything she sings. She may be too young to fully appreciate the deep romantic emotions in some of her songs, but her often playful tone carries more heft than you might expect from someone so young.
